Dominic Nahr was born in Appenzell, grew up in Hong Kong, studied fine art in Toronto and moved to Nairobi in 2009. From there he began photographing the events of our time: Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Fukushima, Syria, Gaza, and most recently Ukraine over a period of years.
His pictures have appeared in National Geographic, the NZZ, The New Yorker, Der Spiegel and Stern. His work has been recognised with a World Press Photo Award, several Pictures of the Year Awards and the Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award; in 2024 he was named Swiss Press Photographer of the Year, with first prizes for portraits from Ukraine and for his coverage of the earthquake in Morocco. His photographs are shown in solo exhibitions worldwide.
