Satellites now measure the Earth with millimeter precision. At the same time, satellite navigation is systematically jammed and falsified in warfare. This reminds us how dependent our daily lives have become on it.
Benedikt Soja is a professor of space geodesy at ETH Zurich and previously worked at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He explains how jamming and spoofing work, what can be done about them – and how satellites are used to measure the Earth in the first place.
