SUMMARY:The Business of Artificial Intelligence: A physicist's perspective
DESCRIPTION:Dear Rotaractors\, friends and guests\,\n \nWe would like to i
 nvite you to the speech of Giacomo Miceli on the topic of artifical intell
 igence. \n\nThe focus of his work is on key Artificial Intelligence techn
 ologies – such as Machine Learning\, Natural Language Processing\, and R
 obotics – to understand the implications of these new technologies for b
 usiness strategy\, as well as the economic and societal issues they raise.
  \n\nGiacomo Miceli studied Theoretical Physics at the University of Pis
 a. He moved to Switzerland after graduating to do a doctorate under the gu
 idance of Prof. Michele Parrinello. Thereafter\, he undertook scientific 
 research at the University of Milan. Following this\, he moved back to Swi
 tzerland to take up a position of Senior Research Scientist at the École 
 Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. In his research he deploys advanced 
 quantum methods for atomistic simulations and state- of-the-art Deep Neura
 l Network techniques to study the microscopic properties of water\, semico
 nductors and materials for hydrogen storage. The understanding of the rela
 ted chemical-physical phenomena is crucial for further advances in the fie
 ld of renewable energy and efficient opto-electronic devices. Today Giacom
 o increasingly dedicates himself to the study of complex systems to unrave
 l the intricate mechanisms that characterise their collective behaviour. T
 his is the ultimate interdisciplinary field\, which includes Physics\, Bio
 logy\, Economy\, Finance and Society. He combines sophisticated theories b
 orrowed from the domain of Statistical Mechanics\, diverse data sources\, 
 and powerful machines to build and run data-driven\, machine learning algo
 rithms. \n\nThe speech will start at 7:00pm at Vis-à-vis\, so we would
  like to ask you to arrive by 6:45 in order to be able to order food and
  drinks beforehand.\n\nAfter the speech\, we will as always enjoy a nice d
 inner and drinks and have room for further discussions about our plans for
